Cardiology Associates of Fredericksburg was founded in 1978 by Dr. Michael Cherwek, who was the first physician to bring Board Certified Cardiology to the Fredericksburg region. Cardiology Associates today carries on that quality tradition having celebrated thirty years of service to the community in 2008.
Milestones in our practice history include key roles in:
* Development of the first Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory at Mary Washington Hospital in 1990.
* Active participation in the Moss Free Clinic since its inception.
* Recruitment of Dr. Armitage in 1994 to Mary Washington Hospital to establish a Cardiac Surgery Program.
* Being the first practice to introduce office based Nuclear Cardiology in 1995.
* Introduction of Transesophageal Echocardiography.
* Co-development of around-the-clock Interventional Cardiology Services at Mary Washington Hospital to treat victims of acute myocardial infarction.
* Adding Electrophysiology Services to our practice in 2007.
As the community’s needs have grown so have we, having recently relocated to a new state-of-the-art 20,000 sq. ft. office, centralizing all our outpatient services for your convenience with a Mary Washington Hospital Outreach Laboratory on site.
Future plans include adding active medical staff privileges at the soon to open Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center in 2010, so that we will be able to serve the community at both of the region’s major medical centers.
